Trim before export decisions

Cut the clip to the usable section first. There is no point choosing bitrate or channel layout for audio you are going to throw away.

This is especially important for client previews, voice notes, podcast excerpts, and support recordings. A recipient should hear the useful section immediately instead of scrubbing through silence, setup talk, or room noise.

Adjust level carefully

A small gain increase is often enough for voice notes, previews, and rough handoff clips. If the source already peaks hard, pushing level too far can make the result worse.

Use volume changes to make rough clips easier to review, not to master the file. If the audio distorts, clips, or needs cleanup, use a dedicated audio editor before sharing.

Choose MP3 or WAV based on the destination

Use MP3 when file size and sharing convenience matter most. Use WAV when the handoff should stay lossless for editing or review in another audio app.

For email, chat, and quick approval, MP3 is usually enough. For another editor, a producer, or a workflow that continues in an audio app, WAV is safer because it avoids another compression step.

What to check before download

• The clip starts just before the useful section.
• The loudest part does not sound distorted after level adjustment.
• The export format matches the next person or platform.
• The filename explains what the recipient is reviewing.
